8 Steps to a Relaxing Mini-Spa Day at Home

Take a moment out of your week to reconnect with your body and give it some much-needed pampering.

A home spa day is an easy treat that you can give yourself, pregnant or not. I found it especially helpful in reconnecting with my body, which, during pregnancy, can often feel more like a vessel for a foreign object than a thing to be pampered. Here's what I do.

1. Enjoy a nice, long bath

Grab a good book and settle in (here are the 6 books that changed my life, and I hope they inspire you too!) You can add a few drops of lavender oil for a relaxing bath or a couple of drops each of peppermint and lemon oil for a pick-me-up. Rose oil is another girly option I love for its beautiful smell. It's also very sensual.

2. Exfoliate

In the bathtub with the bathwater running, exfoliate your face with my Homemade Coffee Face Scrub. Then wipe off the scrub with a washcloth.

3. Indulge in a face mask

Apply a natural face mask (see my recipe for Homemade Moisturizing Face Mask). Leave it on for your time in the bath.

4. Hydrate your hair

If your hair is dry, apply a coconut oil hydrating mask, then pull your hair back with a hair tie while the mask works its magic. Make sure to wash your hair before getting out of the tub. Coconut oil is great because one wash and it's gone.

5. Moisturize

After the bath, moisturize with body oil and whatever moisturizer you like for your face (just avoid these face creams).

6. Check yourself out

All the while, make sure to check yourself out in your bathroom mirror naked. The more time I spend with my naked self, the more I appreciate my body, especially while pregnant. A pregnant body is beautiful!

7. Bust you the polish

Give yourself a manicure and pedicure.

8. End with a blow-dry

Finish the mini-spa with a blow-dry. For me, when my hair looks good, the rest doesn't matter.
