In the running community, both newbies and veterans of the sport admire Jeff Galloway. He is adored for his Run Walk Run training method and has personally introduced thousands of runners to the road-racing scene. As an Olympic 10K legend, he ran shoulder to shoulder with Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, and Steve Prefontaine. And in his heyday, he clocked a personal best of 2:16:35 in the marathon. Nowadays, Galloway continues to translate training for everyday runners and serves as an inspirational speaker at more than 200 running events. Every program he attends benefits various organizations. Galloway cofounded the Breast Cancer Marathon, 100 percent of the proceeds of which go to breast-cancer research and care for underserved patients. And as if that didn’t keep him busy enough, he’s still running. This past July, he celebrated his 70th birthday the Galloway way: he ran his 200th marathon.

Says Galloway, “Every day I help dozens of athletes, committed exercisers or beginners find solutions so that they can continue to enjoy the amazing benefits of exertion including the activation of brain circuits for a better attitude, more vitality, and personal empowerment. One of the greatest joys in life is helping people improve the quality of their mental activity, enrich honest connections with friends and family, and enhance productivity in their life’s work—and the right type of regular exercise does this.”
