Memorial Day weekend is the non-official start to summer and, as we will deem it, the official start to BBQ season. Research shows that BBQ-goers consume more than the recommended daily intake of calories in a single barbecue meal, with men often eating more than 3,500 calories and women more than 2,500. A few key strategies that can make the difference between a weight gain summer and a stay-slim summer? Snacking smart, not arriving to gatherings hungry, and watching your calories from beverages.

Another way to beat caloric overload? Make smarter choices at your next BBQ affair. We caught up with nutritionist Rania Batayneh, M.P.H., author of the best-selling book, The One One One Diet, for her seven expert product picks for a healthier BBQ.
